OUR BARE ISLES ETHOS
What does clean beauty really mean?
Clean beauty is currently not a regulated term in the industry which can be confusing and overwhelming to know where to start.
At Bare Isles our criteria for product selection is to stock products formulated without ingredients that are linked to irritation, hormone disruption or environmental harm.
We have chosen to curate a range which is free from the following :
PARABENS - PHTHALATES -SULFATES -SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCE-SILICONES-TRICLOSAN
Our philosophy at Bare Isles is to start with one small swap, embrace progress not perfection .
PARABEN FREE
Parabens are synthetic preservatives commonly used in beauty products to prevent the growth of bacteria and mould. However, they have raised concerns because they can mimic estrogen in the body, which may disrupt natural hormone balance. Parabens can also be absorbed through the skin and accumulate in the body over time. Choosing paraben free products is a simple way to reduce exposure to potentially harmful ingredients and support a cleaner approach to skincare and personal care.
PHTHALATES FREE
Phthalates are a group of chemicals often used in beauty and personal care products to help fragrances last longer and improve texture. However, they have been linked to hormone disruption and may interfere with the body’s natural endocrine system. Because phthalates can be absorbed through the skin and repeated exposure may build up over time, many people choose to avoid them. Opting for phthalate free products helps reduce unnecessary chemical exposure and supports a cleaner, more conscious approach to personal care.
SULFATE FREE
Sulfates are cleansing agents commonly used in shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers to create a rich lather. While effective at removing oil and dirt, they can also strip the skin and hair of their natural moisture, which may lead to dryness, irritation, and sensitivity. For many people, especially those with sensitive skin or colour treated hair, sulfate free products offer a gentler alternative that helps maintain the skin’s natural balance while still cleansing effectively.
SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCE FREE
Synthetic fragrance is often used in beauty products to create appealing scents, but the term “fragrance” can represent a mixture of many undisclosed chemicals. Some of these ingredients may trigger skin irritation, allergies, headaches, or sensitivities, especially for those with reactive skin. Choosing fragrance free or naturally scented products can help reduce unnecessary chemical exposure and support a gentler, more transparent approach to skincare and personal care.
SILICONE FREE
Silicones are commonly used in beauty products to create a smooth, silky feel and give hair and skin a temporarily polished appearance. However, they can form a coating on the skin or hair that may trap oil, sweat, and impurities, which can contribute to buildup over time. Some people prefer to avoid silicones in favour of ingredients that allow the skin and hair to breathe more naturally and support long term health rather than temporary smoothing effects.
TRICLOSAN FREE
Triclosan is an antibacterial ingredient that has been used in some soaps, cleansers, and personal care products. However, concerns have been raised about its potential to disrupt hormone function and contribute to antibiotic resistance. It may also irritate the skin and impact the balance of beneficial bacteria on the skin. Choosing triclosan-free products helps reduce exposure to unnecessary antibacterial chemicals and supports a more balanced approach to skin health.
